Future Sedations now live

Head on over to our Bandcamp page to get your download or purchase a CD. Download it FREE until March 1st. It will then be available on iTunes.

Sneak Peek

The digital download comes with a 12 page PDF featuring artwork, lyrics, credits and photographs taking throughout the recording and mixing/mastering process. I must say, Bart has outdone himself again.

Just a reminder: Release date is February 14th, and the EP will be available for download and CDR purchase via our Bandcamp page. But the download will only be free until the end of the month. After this it will be available at a nominal price akin to the iTunes pricing. Oh yeah, as of March 1st it will be available on iTunes!

Lovely.

Future Sedations coming soon

We are pleased to announce that a new EP will be available February 14th, 2012.

The EP is called ‘Future Sedations’ and contains three tracks.

The release will be available for FREE Download via our Bandcamp page, and you shall be able to link to it here via the ‘Music’ page/tab on February 14th. It will be FREE for a limited time only.

For those who are still a little old fashioned and want something physical to hold, there will be a limited amount of CDR’s available from the Bandcamp page. The physical release is really only a necessity for press and radio, and the remaining copies will be available to anyone who wants one at a nominal price (which will included P&H).

I spent last Monday at Reel  2 Real Mix Master with Nao Anzai having the EP Mastered and it is sounding great. Quite pleased with how it has turned out, and a little relieved that it is finally done. Andrew’s and my time together working on music has often been a struggle so just getting these 3 songs done has been a lengthy process. But we’re feeling good that it is complete and have already demoed several new songs to begin working on soon. 2012 is going to be THE year.

Old pal Bart Kowalski is designing the cover art and packaging now and soon we’ll be able to give you a sneak peak at how ‘Future Sedations’ will look.

More very soon!

Another Year Over…

Where does time go? Seriously… This supposed phenomena or theory of time speeding up carries water. I think this is what the Mayans refer to as the end of time, and no, they never prophesied the end of the world, as we head towards the great cosmic convergence. Lost anyone yet? Good. So on to some real nuggets of information…

As is the usual case, I forget about this page for a good 6 months or more and then think I best write an update. Truth be told, if there is no post it is because there is no news to report. That’s not to say that some progress music-wise hasn’t been made, but if every little morsel is reported how interesting is it bound to remain? But because it’s the end of another year, I shall rattle off a few slithers of gossip.

Firstly, I’d like to extend an official congratulations to The Black Hundred’s former guitarist Nick Pledge on becoming a father! Also, to drummer Sean Albers, very soon to also become a father. Must be something in the water… or the sperm? It’s about that time again when all your friends start settling down if they hadn’t already, and you’re the odd one out. Oh well.

Secondly, if you didn’t know, I returned to study this year to get some knowledge in all things Audio Engineering. This is because I’d like a change of scenery, but also because I like learning stuff and would like to become more self-sufficient when creating my own music when no one else is around or free for months on end. My fault too really, but time is a bitch! So the first year has been successfully completed, whew! And until March 2012 there is a bit of downtime for making more noise.

As soon as I finished for the year I sent out a bunch of emails looking for work experience in local recording studios, or if there was any assistant engineer jobs going (fat chance). One studio actually had a bit of a system in place where it offered Audio students a couple of days experience in their complex. This turned out, mostly, to be fun, as I got to show I knew what I was doing and mike up a drum kit for tracking the next day, thereupon return and help engineer the session as the main engineer was actually session drumming for the female recording artist. Bonza!
The studio owner was suitably impressed with my work and invited me back to do some tedious computer work for him in excel, which I did two days of and have been paid in ‘Studio time’. Ahh time, there you are again. So… Where is this leading? Oh come on, you know already…

Early in the new year this studio time will be used to do drum-tracking for one or two new Black Hundred tracks to feature on a future release. Sean ‘Jova’ Albers is returning to the fold as my go-to session guy. I love his drumming so much I can’t really imagine many other people playing some of the parts I have written or have in mind. I can’t wait to record Jova’s drumming and have it grace The Black Hundred music once again. Might have to rope Pledgey back into playing on a track too, just to complete the circle. Ah nostalgia.

But these are newer tunes.

There are older tunes that will be seeing the light of day much sooner. And I know I likely said they’d be out months ago, but Andrew and I are both busy chaps and find it hard to get together regularly. But over the school holidays there will be time spent.

The next release is 3 tracks, and comes under the title ‘Future Sedations’. Tracklisting is as follows:
1. Bad Days Are Coming (w/ Andrew Day on vocals) 2. Future Sedation 3. Max Demian.

These are currently in the mixing stage and should see release in February 2012.

Andrew Day has just recently returned to Melbourne after spending the better part of 8 years living abroad in Tokyo and London. We’ve wanted to collaborate for a long time and I’m extremely pleased with how ‘Bad Days Are Coming’ has turned out, and now he’s back in Melbourne I look forward to more collaborations in the future.

Well, that’s about it for now. Might actually have more news much sooner this time as the next few month should see plenty of activity in The Black Hundred camp.

VARIATIONS – The Remixes

After much delay, The Black Hundred Remix album ‘Variations’ is now available for FREE download at our Bandcamp page. We hope you enjoy.

Listen loudly.

More new music VERY SOON!

On (Sound)Cloud Nine

Because much is happening now, it’s almost feeling like we’re on a roll. Spirits have lifted, and the air of excitable energy permeates from my fingertips. OK, perhaps getting carried away ;) But in an effort to get some old demos to an even greater state of ‘completion’(?) or at least continue to build upon and expand ideas and pave new potential paths for each song to take, I have spent the better part of the evening working in Ableton Live, to keep this energy flowing. Andrew and I are back in the studio on Thursday, and now I have a new song to present for manipulation and completion.

For those who may be unfamiliar, I have a Soundcloud page where I like to upload a lot of sketches and in-progress pieces for friends and co to hear. Though the idea was to encourage feedback in the formative stages, despite reasonable listens said feedback hasn’t been overly forthcoming ;) Not to worry… it’s still a nice place to have a collection of sounds online, and at times a good way to share music you’d otherwise never get to hear.

Take the time to look around… you’ll see that there’s a FREE downloadable Remix from the forthcoming remix album ‘Variations’ from Sydney group Underlapper.

Thanks for reading.

The New Year… Welcome!

Been quite some time since our last post. Apologies to our MASSIVE amount of readers out there awaiting all the goss from The Black Hundred camp! For a long time there was nothing new to report. Many things were put on hold for a short time, and then took awhile to get up and running again.

Andrew spent a bunch of time concentrating on finishing up Radiant City’s debut album and putting that out into the world with supporting live shows. Great album well worth checking out! Here’s a snippet:

Since December Andrew and I have reconnected and begun the process of recording the next Black Hundred release. Though I suppose, the next release is still meaning to be an album of remixes, and this IS happening, but we’re still awaiting one (or potentially two?) more to return to us, and sadly this has been constantly delayed due to the unfortunately poor health of one of the creative talent. Once this is complete we’ll post news and a link to our bandcamp page where you can get all the sounds!

When I say a new release, I mean specifically new music. The new line-up, and completely differing sounds from the debut album that came from our 2006-2009 line-up. The Black Hundred, if you just tuned in, is no longer an operating, or “gigging” live band. The Black Hundred is making music any way we can and releasing it however we like. Eventually there will be the rare live appearance. No doubt with the release of a new album we’ll need to put together a group of fine musicians to help us play these new tunes live. For the moment though we’re confined to Andrew’s studio.

Material is in no short supply. It’s simply the time it takes to record, and creating music in this way is a new approach for both of us so it is taking some time. But I am pleased to say that we’ve 90-95% finished Three(3) new songs, and while a new full length album is the goal, we’re looking at releasing an EP as soon as we have five(5) new songs in the can. This is solely because we want to get new music out soon, and have it serve as a teaser for the forthcoming full length album from the new line-up, kind of bridging the gap between the old and new I guess you could say!

Back with more news shortly…

Election Days

ZzzZZzZzzzZ

What’s more interesting than an election!? ANYTHING.

Guess what? We have some news.

The Black Hundred album is starting to get some airplay on Melbourne and Sydney radio stations, most notably RRR and FBi. Many thanks to Owen McKern and Pete Hollo thus far for helping spread the gospel.

Seems these Remixes we’ve been asking friends and peers to do have been reasonably popular and we have more on the way! Just these past few weeks we’ve received more remixes back from All India Radio, Underlapper, and Nao Anzai (who recorded The Black Hundred album, but is also a noise artist, jazz pianist, and all-round nice guy). With a couple more due in the coming week or two, we’ve been enjoying listening to them all as a collected body of work and the idea sprang up, “Why don’t we just do another digital download release of all the remix tracks?” This is still an idea at this stage, though continually becomes more appealing. While the initial plan was to have the remixes serve as bonus tracks or downloads and the odd “exclusive”, it would be nice to be able to attain them all in one grab. So let’s wait and see how this pans out.

Another piece of exciting news is that The Black Hundred album is now available on UK Label Shifting Sounds’ online store right…. here: www.shiftingsounds.co.uk

Don’t tell anyone else, but whereas on Bandcamp you purchase the album and get the 3 bonus remixes free, but unable to purchase singularly, here on Shifting Sounds you can purchase each track separately if you so desire. Obviously it works out more economical to nab the album as a whole though!

Lastly, I’ve spoken of it on Twitter, you’ll soon be able to score a FREE Remix track downloadable from Bandcamp &/or Shifting Sounds very shortly. And don’t forget to befriend us on Facebook for more up-to-date news: www.facebook.com/pages/The-Black-Hundred

We’ll keep you posted!

Thanks for reading.

Debut Album Available Monday July 26th

Purchase the album as a whole and receive 3 bonus Remix tracks!

More FREE music up at Bandcamp

I’m continuing, as mentioned in my previous post, to upload my old band SEASON’s entire catalogue to Bandcamp for free download so you can enjoy and hopefully share with others.

Today I put up a few more of the smaller releases we did, including our first EP, a couple of live giveaway singles we did, and our last “single” Within Without which includes a remix from Sydney group theHEAD as the b-side (and it’s awesome!). This single was released to coincide with our 2005 Tour up the East Coast of Australia and garnered the band some great reviews including Beat Magazine’s single of the week, and reasonable radio play including JJJ and ABC Radio National.

Also check out theHEAD on Bandcamp while you’re there as they too have their entire catalogue online for free download. Doesn’t get much better than that!

I hope you enjoy! x
